The Expendables 4 cast, trailer, plot, reviews and more

The Expendables 4 release date has Sylvester Stallone coming back for some of the best action movies this century, and we've got all the details you need.

Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables 4

When’s The Expendables 4 release date? With a line-up including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Jet Li, The Expendables was a who’s who of action stars. After the first installment in 2010, we’ve gotten more and more explosive team-ups.

In The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone leads a ragtag group of stars from the best 80s movies and best 90s movies through a rigmarole of calamitous missions. Together, they’ve stopped rogue CIA agents, other mercenaries, and even former colleagues. Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis have all appeared, proving these are the best action movies to be in if you can make walking away from an explosion look cool.

After nine years, we finally have another adventure. Well, the action-based team members are an elusive bunch, but we’ve been hot on their tail, and all the information we’ve found about The Expendables 4 cast, reviews, and more is listed below.

The Expendables 4 release date and reviews

The Expendables 4 was released in theaters on Friday, September 22, 2023, and opened to mostly negative reviews.

Our own Anthony McGlynn didn’t have many good things to say about the bloated sequel, saying in his The Expendables 4 review that “The Expendables 4 isn’t much for logic, or anything else worthwhile for that matter.” Ouch.

Elsewhere, Amy Nicholson from New York Times wrote: “The film’s last reel is so awful — so sneeringly contemptuous of our good-faith efforts to play along with these shenanigans — that we leave the theater still thinking of that shot of a corpse’s middle finger. It sure seemed pointed at us.”

The A.V. Club‘s Courtney Howard said: “Lackluster on practically every level, this ought to be renamed The Disposables as it’s a giant waste of everyone’s time and talent.”

What’s The Expendables 4 about?

The Expendables 4 has the team facing an arms dealer who controls a private army, as well as trying to prevent access to nuclear weapons. Fairly routine stuff for this bunch of heavy hitters.

Uwais is playing the movie villain, said arms dealer, who has a vast army at his disposal (and maybe a nuclear weapon or two). What else do you need to know? Some categorically bad dude is doing something only the Expendables can handle, so they go and handle it.

The team also finds themselves separated for a majority of the movie, after Statham is temporarily kicked out and the rest of the group finds themselves ambushed and kidnapped. So get ready to see Statham attacking a boat on his own, taking down baddie after baddie with his solo skills.

This is also the last of The Expendables movies to feature Stallone. He’s announced he plans on retiring from the series and wants Statham to take over as the lead character, which is clear from the Expend4bles ending. There’ll also be explosions and bullets and lots of kicks. Just like the previous three, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Where can I watch The Expendables 4?

The Expendables 4 is a theatrical-only release for now, so you’ll need to head to the theater before you can catch it on streaming platforms.

In any case, the movie will come onto streaming services eventually. For more information on how to watch The Expendables 4, as well as the previous installments, be sure to check out our guide.

Is The Expendables 4 Stallone’s last Expendables movie?

Yes, after four films, Stallone’s character Barney Ross, the leader of The Expendables, is set to retire.

Barney only has a limited role in the new film, and he passes the leadership baton on to Statham’s Lee Christmas. When it comes to future movies in the franchise, don’t expect to see him hanging around.
