Wednesday season 2 release date speculation, cast, plot, and more news

Time to return to Nevermore Academy in one of the best Netflix series! Here's what we know about the Wednesday season 2 release date.

Wednesday season 2 release date: Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams

The kooky, spooky Netflix series brought The Addams Family back to live-action in a dream match-up with nu-goth extraordinaire Tim Burton. And with the huge success of the show, the Wednesday season 2 release date is now on the way.

If you missed the sensation that was Jenna Ortega as the macabre teen Wednesday, it’s time to catch up on one of the best Netflix series because a second season has been confirmed. The first season ended with the titular teen solving the mystery of the Nevermore Academy monster, but there’s a new puzzle to solve.

Wednesday season 2 release date speculation

Wednesday season 2’s earliest possible release could be October 2024 since the show is filming in Spring. It’ll more likely be in Winter, though.

The 2023 Writers Strike and Actors Strike caused a lot of delays, but Variety reported that production is eyeing a Spring 2024 shoot in Ireland.

Unsurprisingly, Wednesday is reportedly a top priority for Netflix. But even at an expedited pace, shooting a TV series takes months. Then it will need to go through post-production and be marketed.

With that in mind, we think October 2024 is the earliest possible window, but more likely it’ll be the final months of the year. We’d love it if Wednesday season 2 was a Halloween treat, but we don’t always get what we want!

Who will be in the Wednesday season 2 cast?

Jenna Ortega leads the Wednesday season 2 cast. Emma Myers as her roommate Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Nevermore’s most popular student Bianca Barclay, and Moosa Mostafa as bee-lover Eugene are likely returning too.

Percy Hynes White might not be returning as Wednesday’s schoolmate and potential love interest Xavier Thorpe, since the actor has been subject to sexual assault allegations since the season 1 release. Netflix has yet to release a statement on this and reports about him being written out of season 2 are currently unsubstantiated.

Thora Birch, who had been added as a season 2 regular as Wednesday’s dorm mother Tamara Novak, had to leave mid-way through production. An MGM representative told Deadline “Thora has returned to the States to attend to a personal matter and will not be returning to the production.”

What’s Wednesday season 2 about?

Season 2 is set in Nevermore Academy and will likely see Wednesday tackle the mysterious text she got at the end of season 1.

In the Wednesday ending, she receives a creepy message before the students break for the end of the semester. Wednesday has more riddles to solve, like finding out who her stalker is, and more to learn about the Addams Family.

Although season 1 explored something of a love triangle, this might be going out the window for the continuation. Ortega is a producer on the second season and has been vocal about some of the show’s elements that she was uncomfortable with.

“Everything that Wednesday does, everything I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all. Her being in a love triangle? It made no sense,” she told Variety.

Thank goodness. The love triangle was the weakest part of the story and gave the show a CW-esque shine that didn’t suit it.

Is there a Wednesday season 2 trailer?

We could get the trailer for Wednesday season 2 by late 2024, but there isn’t one yet.

If we’re thinking season 2 will come out in late 2024, we should at least have a teaser by fall 2024. There’s no official window yet, so that’s our guess for now.

While we wait for new footage, listen to Ortega explain how that viral dance scene from the first season came about. You know the one.

Where can I watch Wednesday season 2?

Wednesday season 2 will stream on Netflix when it releases.

There was a time when this was in question, as Amazon purchased Wednesday’s production company MGM in May 2022. However, there have been no changes announced, and it’s unlikely there will be because the deals in place for Wednesday were struck before the acquisition.

Luckily, there’s plenty new on Netflix to keep us going in the meantime. Two Netflix shows that we recommend to Wednesday fans are The Fall of the House of Usher and Fate: The Winx Saga.

How many episodes are in Wednesday season 2?

We expect that Wednesday season 2 will have eight episodes, just like season 1.

There’s been no murmurs of a changed episode count, although it’s possible. We think eight was a good number for season 1’s story, and we wouldn’t want to see it go down.

Perhaps there will be enough time for another cello song from Wednesday, too — we’ll keep you posted.
