What We Know About Doctor Who Series 12
Jodie Whittaker's second year as The Doctor follows a season that wasn't widely acclaimed despite having some individual great episodes. Jodie and Bradley Walsh' performances were praised but unsatisfying stories meant many fans were disappointed.
When will Doctor Who Series 12 air?
The BBC is set to air the next series of Doctor Who in early 2020 - at present there doesn't appear to be a Christmas special scheduled for this year and indeed, there wasn't one in 2019; it was replaced by a New Year's Day episode. It remains to be seen whether Chris Chibnall will repeat this to kick off the new series.
Who will star in Doctor Who Series 12?
Jodie Whittaker is returning as The Doctor, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill will also reprise their roles as Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan.
In addition Molly Harris is set to appear as a character named Suki Cheng in one episode and there are rumours that Stephen Fry has been cast too.
Which monsters do we expect to appear?
Series 11 was very light on classic monsters - Chris Chibnall elected to create new monsters for the main run of the show, or to focus on know historical characters and events. However there was a Dalek of sorts in the New Year Special.
We're expecting another classic monster to make an appearance next year, but which one it is is totally open to speculation at present.
Who is writing and directing for Doctor Who Series 12?
Chris Chibnall will be plotting out the main course of the series alongside writing a number of episodes. Ed Hime and Vinay Patel are set to return following their work on the previous series and Victoria Asare-Archer and Prasanna Puwanarajah are newcomers.
Jamie Childs is the only confirmed director so far.
