UPDATED: Castmembers and director confirmed for Supergirl / The Flash musical crossover

UPDATE: The Music Mesiter has been cast; it's not Neil Patrick Harris but the casting is almost as fun. Grant Gustin's Glee co-star Darren Chris has been cast as the villain for the musical crossover.

Ever since the Supergirl / The Flash musical crossover was announced, anticipation has been high. With both leading stars Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin both Glee alums and a great many talented singers amongst the Arrowverse, this is one that is sure to bring positive comparisons to the excellent Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical classic Once More With Feeling.

Naturally many were questioning whether The CW would get Joss Whedon for the directing gig; sadly he won't be helming the crossover, though it will be in good hands with veteran DC TV director Dermott Downs. The episodes will apparently also go by the title Duet.

Other cast members have been confirmed, from a mix of Arrowverse shows; Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Carlos Valdes, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, Victor Garber and John Barrowman will be taking up singing duties, while David Harewood and Chris Wood will also appear, with a 'non-singing' capacity.

The musical villain behind this crossover will by the Music Meister, who debuted in 2009 in animated series Batman: The Brave And The Bold, with his ability to hypnotise people through the power of song.

The Music Meister was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris and fans have been wondering whether he might reprise the role in a live action capacity. Intriguingly, when asked if Harris might be playing the show's villain, producer Andrew Kreisberg responded with...

"We’re certainly huge fans of [Harris] and as the casting process proceeds, we’ll see what happens." - The CW

We'll be eagerly following this crossover when the shows return for the second half of their seasons this year...
