After months of rumours, HBO picks up True Detective for a third season
There have been a whole host of rumours about anthology series True Detective since it ended its second season. After failing to reach the critical highs of the first, many have wondered if HBO would continue the series. However, TV Line has confirmed that HBO have picked up the show for a third year. And the rumours about the new lead star for season three were right too.
Mahershala Ali, who won an oscar for Moonlight and has given brilliant performance in everything from House of Cards to Luke Cage, has been cast as the lead for True Detective season three.
HBO has also released the logline for season three, which gives a clue to the premise…
“The next installment tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”
Ali will play Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Joining the actor and showrunner and writer Nic Pizzolatto is filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier as Executive Producer and director.
“Nic has written truly remarkable scripts. With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective.”
“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”
