Netflix obviously have a lot of faith in upcoming TV fantasy series The Witcher that they have already renewed it for a second season. The streaming site made the announcement on Twitter today.
The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and is based on a series of novels of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski and subsequent series of games. The story follows three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich made the following statement:
“I am so excited that before viewers dive into season one, we are already able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, and to showcase more of the amazing work that our cast and crew have delivered.”
The first season will stream on Netflix on the 20th December. Production on season two will begin early next year for a planned 2021 debut.
