The Return of the Cowell?

After months of speculation which began in August, David Hasselhoff has confirmed that he will not be returning to the judging panel of Britain's Got Talent. He commented through his account on Twitter (@davidhasselhoff):

"SO ITS OFFICIAL. I'M NOT COMING BACK TO BGT (Britain's Got Talent). SO IF YOU WANT TO SEE ME LIVE COME CHECK ME OUT IN BRISTOL AS HOFF THE HOOK IN PETER PAN XXX." (No need to shout at us, David.)

He added: "thanks to everyone who supported me on my BGT days. Nothing but fond memories of the cast and crew and thanks to Simon Cowell. Hoff the Hook"

With Michael McIntyre also off the judging panel, there are two places to sit alongside Amanda Holden. David Walliams, Katherine Jenkins, Paul O'Grady, Dannii Minogue and Samantha Womack have all been listed as possible replacements. Another name has cropped up: Simon Cowell. And it appears to be his own idea.

According to today's Mirror, Cowell wants to return to boost the ratings and he plans to bring Barbara Windsor along with him. An ITV insider told the Mirror, "Simon wants to make it the biggest, most successful series yet. His presence will be a guaranteed ratings winner as he is so popular with viewers."

However, a spokesman for the ITV refused to confirm the news:

"There's been a lot of speculation. We will announce the line up soon."

At the moment, it is anyone's guess. You can see the sensationalist report by the Mirror here or you can view clips from last year's competition on the official website here
