The Mystery of Edwin Drood pictures
There's been a lot of Dickens on TV lately, and you might start to think you've seen all of it now. Well, the BBC have just the thing to prove you wrong: The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, an adaptation of his final unfinished work, which he was already working on when he died in June 1870.
The story concerns choirmaster John Jaspers (Matthew Rhys), who falls in love with his pupil Rosa Bud (Tamzin Merchant), but believes his nephew Edwin Drood (Freddie Fox) stands between himself and the object of his desire. How far will he go to get what he wants? And, well, will it be mysterious?
Writer Gwyneth Hughes, tasked with finishing Dickens's last work, says of the piece: ""Who could resist the challenge of inventing an ending for Charles Dickens' unfinished last work? The great entertainer left us only the first half of a dark hearted mystery tale, its impossibly young and vulnerable heroine pitted against one of the most creepy and chilling anti-heroes in English literature."
The new two-part drama is coming to BBC Two on the 10th and 11th of January, see some pictures just below here.
