Syfy orders pilot to Superman prequel series Krypton

First came Gotham, the Batman prequel series to feature everyone except Batman, and now comes the Superman prequel series Krypton. After a lot of discussion by David S. Goyer, who penned a number of superhero films including Man Of Steel, Syfy have ordered a series pilot. And like Gotham, Krypton won't be featuring Supes himself.

The series will be based 200 years prior to the planet's destruction and the birth and departure of Kal El (and his cousin Kara, currently seen on Supergirl - check out the latest review here). Interestingly, it may also be the first TV series to be linked to the new DC Cinematic Universe that begun with Man Of Steel. On the announcement of the pilot order, Goyer made a lot of reference as to how that film might influence Krypton.

"Part of the fun of doing Man of Steel — and I was so insistent on setting that opening on Krypton and really seeing it, was pulling back the curtain. The first draft, the first forty pages were on Krypton, so we compressed that all down to fifteen minutes and there were a lot of ideas that I wanted to use in the film that didn’t ultimately make it into the film." - Collider
