Supergirl to introduce another major superhero in season two

Warning, mild spoilers ahead of the final two episodes still due to air in the UK...

Supergirl has gone from strength to strength this season, with the latest episode here in the UK featuring a terrific cross-over with The Flash (our review will be up shortly). It seems things are going to get better as the show moves across to The CW for season two, with the promise of a four-part major crossover event between Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow due to take place in the early part of the next seasons of all four superhero shows.

And now Supergirl is set to gain another major superhero when the show returns for season two; Superman himself will be making an appearance in the first two episodes. He has so far been teased on the show (we saw his back briefly, his face obscured by sunlight in a flashback, an alternate boy version of Kal El on Krypton and a bunch of instant messaging between Kara and Clark).

Apparently, the writers were forbidden from using more overt appearances of Clark Kent / Superman in Supergirl season one (perhaps due to his major role in the DC Cinematic Universe), though this restriction appears to have been lifted. Executive producer Andrew Kriesberg made the following statement...

"Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler[ and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!" - The CW

No news yet on who will be playing the Man Of Steel. Supergirl concludes its first season here in the UK with the final two episodes on Fridays at 8pm on Sky 1. Robert Turnbull's next review of last week's episode World's Finest will be up shortly...
