Series Nine Episode Length Confirmed For Doctor Who

Series nine of Doctor Who will follow the same structure as series eight, a recent press release from BBC Books has confirmed; 12 episodes plus a Christmas special. The airdate is expected to be the same as last year - late August / early September - with the 12 episodes running uninterrupted, then a short break before the Christmas special.

So far the confirmed writers are: Steven Moffat (episodes one and two), Toby Whithouse (episodes three and four), Jamie Mathieson (episode five) and Catherine Tregenna (episode six). Mark Gatiss will also be writing for the second half of series nine. Currently speculation is that series nine will be a run of two-parters, breaking the 'movie of the week' format of previous years.

In other news, Jemma Redgrave will also be filming multiple episodes for series nine as UNIT continues to be a bigger presence on the show. She will be back first in the series openers The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar, which also feature the return of Michelle Gomez's villainous Missy, before appearing in the fifth and sixth episodes The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived.
