Game of Thrones companion book Fire & Blood will serve as inspiration for the spin-off series
With work already underway in the first Game of Thrones prequel at HBO (set a thousand years before the main series), a second is nearing development, Variety has revealed.
The site claims a pilot is being developed for a second prequel series, which is being developed by producer Ryan Condal. It will be based on the Game of Thrones companion book Fire & Blood, which tells stories of previous Targaryen kings, including Aegon the Conqueror, the first ruler of Westeros, and Aegon the Dragonbane. It will be set 300 years before the parent show.
This is the second of five rumoured Game of Thrones spin-offs in development. The first, with a potential title of The Long Night, will explore the origins of the White Walkers, the mysteries of Essos and the legends of the early Stark family a thousand years ago. Jane Goldman is serving a showrunner, with an impressive cast assembled, including Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
