American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is bringing Sarah Paulson, one of the show’s biggest stars, over to Netflix for a new series; a prequel to One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Deadline has revealed that the series will focus on a younger version of Nurse Ratched that was originally played by Louise Fletcher and who won a best actress Oscar for the role.
Deadline confirms Ratched – which will see Paulson in the title role – has already received a two-season, 18-episode, straight-to-series order at Netflix. Murphy will direct the open episode as well as writing it and the film will be executive produced by Michael Douglas, who also shepherded the original movie to the big screen. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest was based on Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel.
Deadline has also revealed the log line for the series.
“Ratched is an origins story, beginning in 1947, which will follow Ratched’s (Paulson) journey and evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster. The series will track her murderous progression through the mental health care system.”
Ratched is scheduled to air on Netflix sometime in Mid-2018.
