Russell Brand to return to the BBC?

Remember Sachsgate? The trumped up affair when Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross prank called Andrew Sachs on Radio 2? What ensued was Jonathan Ross taking a break from his chat show and later leave the BBC for ITV, and the resignation of comedian Russell Brand. Brand never returned to the BBC; well, never fronted a show on the channel. Until now.

After four years in BBC exile, Brand is reportedly in line to front a documentary on addiction; it is believed it is along the line of Stephen Fry’s 2006 documentary, The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive.

According to The Guardian, Brand is keen to make the programme as a former addict, and does not want to land the BBC into any controversy. He is prepared to waive his fee, the newspaper reports.

A BBC spokesman said:

“We are working with Russell on a programme about addiction in the UK but it's currently only in its early stages.”

We will be keeping an eye on whatever the outcome is.
