Production begins on Star Trek: Discovery. Check out this behind-the-scenes featurette.

After a number of delays, casting has been completed for Star Trek: Discovery, with The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green in the lead role of the as of yet unnamed Lieutenant Commander. And with production finally beginning on this latest Star Trek incarnation, a behind the scenes featurette has been released, giving us a glimpse into the making of the show.

While we haven't got anything resembling a trailer yet, the featurette does give us a glimpse at the construction of the USS Discovery, the classic-era uniforms and the infamous (but noticeably empty) captain's chair.

Star Trek: Discovery will air here in the UK on Netflix just after the US broadcast; a new air date has yet to be confirmed but with production underway, fans will definitely be getting the new Star Trek this year. We'll be following this show with keen interest...
