Make it so.
Patrick Stewart, on stage this evening at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, has confirmed that he is returning to play Jean-Luc Picard in a brand new Star Trek TV series.
It’s sixteen years since he last played the character in the critically mauled Star Trek Nemesis, which ended on something of a cliffhanger ending with the follow up movie cancelled due to poor box office.
There have been rumours for some time that Picard might be making a return, but this is the first time we’ve had word from someone directly involved in the project. Alex Kurtzman is producing the series for CBS All Access alongside his current work on Star Trek Discovery.
In addition to his on-stage announcement he released the following statement on Twitter:
It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Read my full statement in the photo. #StarTrek @cbsallaccess Photo: @shervinfoto pic.twitter.com/8Ynuj3RBNm

Guessed the spoiler? Are modern audiences too savvy for TV show twists?
