Not every George RR Martin story can become a TV hit.
Syfy has cancelled sci-fi horror drama Nightflyers after just one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed, proving that not every George RR Martin story can be successfully translated to screen.
The series, based on Martin’s novella, has previously been made into a 1987 film of the same name and followed eight scientists and a powerful telepath embarking on an expedition to the edge of the solar system to make contact with alien life as the Earth hung in the balance.
Nightflyers quickly became the most expensive show NBC Universal-owned cable network Syfy has ever developed but failed to get the viewing figures when it was released in the US. It also failed to make much of a splash when it was distributed worldwide on Netflix.
The first and only season is currently available to watch on Netflix now.
