Netflix renews Atypical for a longer second season

The comedy drama centred around autistic Sam will be back for 10 more episodes.

Atypical, the latest Netflix comedy drama focusing on autistic teenager Sam and his family, has been well received since it debuted on the streaming site last month. So it’s good news that Netflix have listened and picked the series up for a second season, extending it from eight to ten episodes.

For those unfamiliar with the show, Keir Gilchrist plays (and excels in a heart-warming performance) as 18-year-old autistic boy Sam who is working his therapist Julia (Amy Okuda) to traverse the first steps of love and independence. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rapaport play Sam’s parents, with differing viewpoints on how much freedom and support he needs, while Brigette Lundy-Paine nearly steals the show from Gilchrist as younger, supportive sister Casey who’s trying to find her own identity separate from Sam.

Atypical will return in 2018.
