Luke Cage season two casts two new major characters

After his team up Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones and Danny Rand in this August's Netflix / Marvel team-up series The Defenders, Mike Colter's Luke Cage will be returning to Harlem for a second solo series. As preparations begin for Luke Cage season two, two new actors have been announced.

Mustafa Shakir has been cast as John McIver, who is described as 'a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission is focused on Harlem and vengeance'.

Joining him is Gabrielle Dennis as Tilda Johnson (aka Nightshade/Nighthawk), described as 'a brilliant, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her'.

On the casting, executive producer Jeph Loeb made the following statement:

"Mustafa's incredible presence and power ignited us from our first meeting, and Gabrielle brings the charm and smarts to a very complicated role. Both will be wonderful additions to our already magnificent cast."

Executive producer and Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker added:

"I can't wait for audiences to see the compelling paces we put both Mustafa and Gabrielle through. From the moment you see each of them on screen, I feel they will be powerful additions to the world of Marvel and Harlem's Luke Cage."

Season two does not have a planned airdate yet but is suspected to stream on Netflix in 2019. You can read our review of last year's Luke Cage season one here.
