Jeremy Renner says he would do a Hawkeye series for Netflix
Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton / Hawkeye has been part of the Mavel Cinematic Universe since phase one and while he was largely sidelined in The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble here in the UK) he proved to be one of the best characters in its sequel The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. But like fellow Avenger Black Widow, he has remained a supporting character, with his next appearance coming up in Captain America: Civil War.
One place that might suit Hawkeye better is Netlfix, which has so far had critical acclaim with Jessica Jones and Daredevil - currently in its second season. (You can read Sean Mason's review of episode one here.). And Renner was asked that very question at the Silicon Valley Comic Con Q&A over the weekend.
His response was rather positive.
"I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.” -
So there you have it. Perhaps we might eventually see Hawkeye take centre stage - if the execs at Marvel are listening. Having one of the Avengers connect with the street level heroes of Hell's Kitchen would be a great way to blend the two worlds more closely together.
