ITV censor Tim Minchin song

You may well be excited about The Jonathan Ross Show Christmas Special on ITV on 23 December, featuring as it does Tom Cruise, the casts of both The Inbetweeners and Downton Abbey, and musical guest Tim Minchin.

Except not so much the last one any more.

Musical comic Tim had been asked to write a song specifically for the show, and put together a cheeky but ultimately harmless ditty comparing Jesus to Woody Allen. The lyrics were checked, it was all signed-off on by lawyers and compliance folk in advance, filmed and then... well to quote Tim's own blog:

"[ITV's director of television] Peter Fincham demanded that I be cut from the show.

He did this because he's scared of the ranty, shit-stirring, right-wing press, and of the small minority of Brits who believe they have a right to go through life protected from anything that challenges them in any way."

The upshot being that Tim won't be appearing on the show, and presumably we'll get an extra four minutes of Tom Cruise that wasn't funny or interesting enough to make the original cut instead. Meanwhile, you can see the video that ITV don't want you to see below.
