Halo TV series ordered by Showtime; Rupert Wyatt to direct

A live action TV series based on the popular Halo game franchise is happening, with Showtime ordering a 10-episode series. The show will be directed by Rise of the Planet of the Apes's Ruper Wyatt, scripted by Kyle Killen and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.

This is a long time coming. Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp famously tried to develop a film based on Halo. Microsoft then announced at E3 2013 that a deal had been reached with Spielberg and Showtime to produce a series based on the game franchise.

On the announcement of the series, President and CEO Showtime Networks David Nevins made the following statement:

Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded. In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”

Fans of Halo will also be please with the announcement of a new game, Halo Infinite, a few weeks ago too.

The series is excepted to go into production next year.
