Discussion underway for a Lord of the Rings television series

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy is largely viewed as a cinematic masterpiece and considering that is has been just 14 years since Return of the King and the many, many rights issues between the Tolkien Estate and Warner Bros that ended with the settlement $80 million lawsuit after a five-year battle, this latest piece if news comes as quite a surprise.

Warner Bros. Television is currently in the preliminary stages of discussions for a potential TV series based on Lord of The RingsThe Hollywood Reporter has reported that this deal is far from official and talks are currently focusing on rights issues with the Tolkien estate. The search for a potential writer has not even begun.

However, it is already being reported that Amazon Studios are currently pushing to buy the series, should it become viable, though it is likely this will be a hot property for many.

It's still very earlier days, but we'll bring more news as we have it.
