Brenton Thwaites will headline the new live action Teen Titans TV show as Robin.
Another live-action DC superhero TV series is coming to our screens, one that has already enticed younger audiences in two animated series; Teen Titans, a show featuring younger superheroes, will be making its debut on DC Entertainment’s streaming service next year.
The show will feature Dick Grayson, AKA the original Boy Wonder Robin, alongside Beast Boy, Cyborg (currently joining up with the Justice League on the big screen later this year), alien princess Starfire and conjurer Raven. Anna Diop and Teagan Croft have already been cast as Starfire and Raven respectively, and now TV Line has reported that Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge star Brenton Thwaites has joined the cast as Robin.
Teen Titans has been developed ArrowVerse boss Greg Berlanti, DC Comics’ chief creative officer Geoff Johns and Fringe writer-producer Akiva Goldsman. Though Berlanti has also co-runs big DC shows like Arrow and The Flash, it is unclear whether Teen Titans will have any impact on those shows, particularly as this new series will see Robin break away from Batman to form his own team and there has been no solid mention of Batman / Bruce Wayne in the ArrowVerse to date.
On Thwaites’ casting, Geoff Johns said:
“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have.
“Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”
Teen Titans will debut next year. No UK broadcaster has yet been confirmed. In the meantime, you can join The Digital Fix has it reviews all four ArrowVerse shows when they return next month.
