Could American Gods be coming to TV after all?

Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel, American Gods, may be getting the television treatment after all - even though HBO backed out of the project back in 2011. It's now been revealed that Freemantle Media have picked up the rights to develop the series and that Gaiman is back on board as producer.

The highly-regarded novel mixes cultural 'God' myths from around the world with a contemporary American setting. It follows an ex-con who is released from prison early due to the death of his wife and who becomes mixed up with the immortal gods of the old world who, bereft of their followers, are no longer the all powerful beings they once were.

The novel features plenty of sex and violence, so quite why HBO didn't think it was a good fit for their network is a good question but we're more than happy that we're still going to get a chance to see one of Gaiman's best stories on our boxes.
