Channel 4 reveal Winter 2012 schedule

It’s approaching winter. Can you not tell? Those girls who wear nothing but belts on the street corners are wearing…well, still nothing but belts; but they are shivering. Channel 4 in their wisdom have released information about their schedule for Winter 2012.

As revealed previously, satire show 10 O’Clock Live is set to return for a second series. The full original line-up of Jimmy Carr, David Mitchell, Lauren Laverne and Charlie Brooker are back in a 10 part series of 45 minute live episodes taking an observational look at that week’s events. It is set to launch in early 2012.

The Bank Job is a new game show created by Channel 4. It is a week-long live in which we see contestants attempt to pull off the ultimate heist. The broadcaster has said, “Each night four players enter a bank vault with safety deposit boxes filled with real money. One winner leaves with a briefcase full of cash - the other three go home empty-handed.” To become a contestant on the show, you have to compete in an online game which will be launched before the show airs. Contestants whom play the game in the early episodes may find themselves playing the game for real a few days after.

We will see the return of popular shows such as Facejacker, Million Pound Drop Live (with hopefully correct answers this time), Desperate Housewives, Hollyoaks, Skins and Shameless.

New to Channel 4 comedy is Britain’s first phone-hacking comedy, the aptly named Hacks. It is written by Drop the Dead Donkey and Outnumbered writer, Guy Jenkin. Channel 4 has given the description: “Set in a fictional paper the drive to get the story is intense - the phrase ‘by any means necessary' doesn't even cover it. Phone hacking, blagging, pinging... the staff here do it all. But it's all about to unravel and in a big way...” It has been revealed that the cast in this 60 minute special include Kayvan Novak, Nigel Planer, Phil Davis, Alexander Armstrong, Gordon Kennedy, Russ Abbott and Celia Imrie.

Jack Whitehall also has his own comedy programme on the channel. Hit the Road Jack shows the comedian pack his bags to go on a tour of the country. He arrives in random places around the country without knowing anyone nor does he have a place to stay. He documents the experience and finishes his week off in the place with a performance in a local venue transformed into a studio.

The channel has been infamous for its factual programmes and its documenting of controversial issues. Director and screenwriter Werner Herzog investigates America’s inmates who wait execution. Death Row Stories shows Herzog’s journey over a year meeting murderers and rapists who wait for their death. Instead of questioning their innocence or guilt, Herzog wants to understand their motivations, attitudes and sentiments at a time when they know their lives are ending. Other factual programmes on the channel include the return of One Born Every Minute, Time Team and Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields: War Crimes Unpunished.
