Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot in development
It's been 15 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer saved the world from the First Evil, ending a successful run of seven seasons and 14 since spin-off series Angel ended. And now it seems we are getting more...just not what you might expect.
Rather than tell a spin-off continuation of the series set in the same universe, 20th Century Fox Television are rebooting the beloved series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Writer Monica Breen, who collaborated with Joss Whedon on Agents of SHIELD, has been hired to script the reboot and serve as showrunner. Whedon himself is apparently involved, but acting as executive producer only (he's busy setting up his own supernatural series The Nevers).
The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that the new version will be contemporary and build on the mythology of the original. Like today's world, the new Buffy will be richly diverse, with some aspects of the series, like the flagship, seen as metaphors for issues facing society today.
A black actress is being sought for the title role. No network has been attached to distribute the series.
What are you thoughts on the reboot? is this an exciting project or one that should be best left alone? We'll leave the comments open for this one...
