Bethany Black joins Doctor Who Series 9 - becoming the first transgender actor to appear on the show
For the first time in its half century history, Doctor Who has cast the first transgender actor - Bethany Black.
Black, who previously appeared on former Who showrunner Russell T Davies' Tofu joked "Now to sit back and wait until The Mail realises the BBC have cast an open trans lesbian in a family show."
Black's character in the show is NOT transgender and she was picked for her acting talents alone and she joins the growing list of talent that will appear throughout Peter Capaldi's second full series.
Doctor Who returns to our screens this September.
