The TV adaptation will continue beyond its eight-episode debut series.
Confidence in the upcoming adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials at the BBC must be high; we haven’t even had the first series yet but a second has already been ordered, Deadline has confirmed.
His Dark Materials will star James McAvoy, Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It has been adapted for television by Jack Thorne with the opening two episodes directed by Tom Hooper. Filming began on the eight-episode first series in Cardiff this month.
The TV series is based on Pullman’s trilogy of books: Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass and tells the story of two children, Lyra and Will, who wander through a series of parallel universes.
