Sky renews Britannia for a second season

Britannia has been a big hit on Sky Atlantic and Sky has been quick to renew the series for another run. The show, developed by Jes Butterworth, is based roughly around the Celtic civilisation at the time Romans invaded Briton and stars David Morrissey, Kelly Reilly, Zoë Wanamaker and Mackenzie Crook. One of the aims of the show was to try attract some of the lucrative Game of Thrones audience (a show which airs in the UK on Sky Atlantic).

Sky’s Commissioning Editor for Drama Cameron Roach, made the following statement:

"The first series of Britannia brought Jez’s unique vision to life. The series is a tale of clashing faith systems, torn apart families, mystic men and fearsome queens, all told with humour, heart, epic drama and violence. Drama on Sky is about the unexpected, the visceral and the memorable, it’s about stories told in a way you won’t find anywhere else. That’s why we are delighted to be working with Jez and the production team on the next instalment."

Britannia season two is expected to air in 2019...
