Game of Thrones, Glee, New Girl renewed for new seasons

It is the season where the US TV channels decide which shows will still be with us next year and which will be taking a permanent vacation, and there have been a few high profile announcements in the last few days, including some series that we've been covering on Television @ The Digital Fix. So, let's summarise...

One big returnee is HBO's Game of Thrones, the epic fantasy series based on George RR Martin's novels. A smash hit with audiences, setting records for both ratings and DVD sales, this was inevitable, but it's always good to see an enthusiastic confirmation that the bosses still love it.

And, of course, we've been covering Game of Thrones week-to-week, you can read our latest review here.

Elsewhere, the Fox network announced a few renewals, including musical teen sugar overdose Glee. This show has been among the biggest cultural additions of the last few years, so isn't a huge shock, but apparently there will be big cast departures or changes at the end of the current run, so it'll be interesting to see what the landscape looks like when this fourth season makes it to air.

Once more, you can see more of our thoughts on where Glee is at right now.

And last of the big new announcements, Fox also brought back their Zooey Deschanel vehicle New Girl. It's proven a polarising experience for viewers, who have found they either love it or want to smash the lead character over the head with a wrench. Nonetheless, it's definitely made a big impact in a short time, so it's little surprise that Fox want to keep it around.

We have an early review of New Girl up, and don't be surprised if we check back in when the season ends.

For the latest news on your US favourites, the TV Line renewal scorecard is a good resource, although watching your favourite shows fade into "Long shot" and then "Cancelled" status can be soul-crushing. Be warned.

And we'll try and bring you any future big announcements, obviously.
