Jesse Alexander steps in as new showrunner for American Gods season two
After the recent surprise departure of American Gods showrunners Michael Green and Bryan Fuller, and Gillian Anderson confirming she won't be back as the goddess Media, the production of season two has been thrown into doubt. But now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jesse Alexander will take the reigns for the second season.
Alexander worked with Fuller on Star Trek: Discovery and Hannibal, and was heavily involved in other critically acclaimed shows like Lost and Alias.
Neil Gaiman, who wrote the novel the series is based on, will also be more involved in the production of American Gods for season two. This is what he had to say about Alexander's appointment as showrunner.
"I'm thrilled that Jesse is [the] showrunner. He loves and understands the book, he loves and understands the TV series and he's dedicated to making future seasons of American Gods as good and as beautiful and as unique as they can be. Shadow's journey is going to take him, and Mr. Wednesday, and the New Gods and the Old, to some very strange places. I'm glad that we, and the cast and crew, will have Jesse shepherding us on the way."
