Gillian Anderson confirms The X Files season 11 will be her last

Gillian Anderson has officially confirmed that the upcoming eleventh season of The X Files will be her last. Anderson, who played Agent Dana Scully from 1993 to 2002, before returning again in the second movie The X Files: I Want To Believe and the 2016 revival series, has told TV Guide "This Is It for Me."

Anderson hinted at October's New York Comic Con that she was done playing Scully, a point she clarified in her interview with TV Guide

“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me.I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

The 10-episode season 11 airs in the US on January 3rd and while Channel 5 has confirmed they will broadcast The X Files again, no UK air date has yet been confirmed.

It would appear that season 11 will indeed be the end of the franchise, though whether it is given a satisfying ending remains to be seen. Series creator Chris Carter has recently said he didn't craft the season 11 finale as a definitive ending, stating “there are a lot more X-Files stories to tell. Whether we get to tell them is a question mark.”

We're eagerly awaiting the new season and will be bringing reviews of each episode when The X Files returns...

The X Files

Chris Carter's The X Files was the cultural zeitgeist of the 1990s, turning Mulder and Scully into television heroes. With its mix of aliens, conspiracies, monsters and serial killers, it revolutionised cult television and returned for new six-part revival in 2016 and another 10 episodes in 2018.
