The Killing final series to be "darker and heavier"
Danish TV series Forbrydelsen, known to BBC Four viewers as The Killing, has become a cultural phenomenon in recent years, spawning a US adaptation and guest appearance by its lead character in the Absolutely Fabulous Christmas special. Indeed, it was one of our TV shows of 2011. We love Scandinavian homicide.
So it's exciting to hear talk from creator Soren Sveistrup about the upcoming third series, even though it is confirmed as the last. According to Digital Spy, Sveistrup describes the next run as "darker and heavier", as Lund investigates the killing of a sailor, and ends up exploring the scarred underbelly of recession-hit Denmark, leading to a confrontation with the Prime Minister himself.
Star Sofie Gråbøl is to return as Lund, along with Morten Suurballe as senior officer Lennart Brix, and the new series airs on Danish channel DR in September. No date is yet known for a subtitled airing on BBC Four, so in the meantime, we'll all have to just watch Borgen, or quietly contemplate how much "darker" The Killing can get...
