Sherlock third series confirmed by Moffat and Gatiss

Minutes after the second series of the BBC's Sherlock concluded, producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss took to Twitter to confirm that, yes, a third series of the smash hit detective drama will be coming, bringing back Benedict Cumberbatch as the great detective and Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson. In fact, it was commissioned at the same time as the second!

No details yet on the timescale, presumably another three 90 minute episodes some time in 2013, to fit around the busy schedules of everyone involved. Moffat, of course, is still lead writer on Doctor Who, Freeman is starring in both The Hobbit movies and Cumberbatch has recently been confirmed as appearing in the Star Trek sequel, as well as also joining Freeman in Middle Earth for The Hobbit.

Nonetheless, Holmes shall return, and after our rave review of the series two finale, that has to be good news. So are you excited for this return? Which Conan Doyle stories should they adapt next?
