George Clooney to star in six-part TV adaptation of Catch 22
It's been years since George Clooney left the world of television to make it big in Hollywood, but now he is making his return to star in a new adaptation of cult World War II-based novel Catch 22.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Clooney will star as Colonel Cathcart, the military commander who continues to increase the number of combat missions required before a soldier can return home. The TV series will run for six episodes but has no network attached at present. Catch 22 will be adapted by writers Luke Davies and David Michod.
Joseph Heller's novel was previously adapted for film by Mike Nichols in 1970 and starred Alan Arkin and Orson Welles. The satirical story is set in Italy during the Second World War and centres around Captain John Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Force B-25 bombardier, and his fellow airmen as they struggle to survive against the insanity of war.
