Coldplay admit "We couldn't f**k up" on X Factor Final
The popular band Coldplay have admitted their fears over performing on last weekend's X Factor final. After reservations among themselves and their team, the band agreed to play on the singing contest's final on Sunday. Frontman Chris Martin had previously said that the band would hesitate in playing for The X Factor.
On their official blog, one of the group's roadies wrote:
"There has been a lot of discussion over whether this was a good idea - not least within the Coldplay camp itself. I remember first hearing that it was a possibility. 'Man, you're handing haters some pretty huge bullets there', was my first thought.
The downsides are obvious. It now becomes effortless for the cool kids to lay out their case against the band. For some, The X Factor is the devil. It is regularly painted as the source of all evil in the current music industry. Indeed, as an angry young man back in my own student days, I'd have ranted at length against it."
Their performance, however, was greeted with a positive response. They trended on the social media site Twitter after the final and more fans expressed interest in buying tickets to see the band live via Facebook and Twitter.
Band member Chris Martin recently said that he thinks The X Factor is important for the music industry as there are no longer shows like Top of the Pops to promote chart material.
The roadie also admitted on the blog:
"(It) struck me that in many ways, f**king up tonight could be more of a big deal than if Glastonbury had gone wrong."
Girl group Little Mix won the competition beating Liverpudlian Marcus Collins. Amelia Lily was voted out on the Saturday edition of the final.
