Can you imagine a Deep Space Nine with Peter Capaldi as Captain Sisko? It could have happened!

We had no idea until today that outgoing Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi once auditioned for the lead role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - and he's not the only familiar face.

In a tweet posted by the official feed for the upcoming DS9 documentary, What We Left Behind, we also got a glimpse of another genre favourite who auditioned for the same role...

Following this, @trekdocs, clarified further with a longer list of actors who auditioned for the role - including Keith Allen and Withnail And I actor Ralph Brown.

The idea of anyone other than Avery Brooks playing, the then Commander, Sisko seems almost to difficult to comprehend, but we're intrigued with the idea that Capaldi or Head could have been going head to head with the Dominion in his place.

The crowdfunded documentary, What We Left Behind, is coming to DVD and Blu-ray soon and you can pre-order a copy via their website. We're hoping that footage of these and other auditions make it to the final film so we can get some idea of what a Scottish or very English Sisko might have been like...
