New Quatermass coming this Christmas? Update: Looking very unlikely
Update: While we are still waiting for any comment from the BBC, we have been told on good authority that the date is incorrect and the poster appears to be fan art from a Quatermass fan forum.
We do know that Quatermass is development but not in production and the detail below regarding Jeremy Dyson and the series being focused on Quatermass and his daughter are both correct.
We're not in the habit of publishing too many rumours, but this one has us VERY excited... We've spotted a poster on one of our Facebook accounts for a new Quatermass series (or maybe film) with a broadcast date of 23rd December on BBC America.
UPDATE: We now have a little more information via Neil Snowdon, author of Kneale biography, We Are The Martians - The Legacy of Nigel Kneale - Quatermass is being written by Jeremy Dyson (The League of Gentlemen, Funland) and will involve both Bernard Quatermass and his daughter. This was originally reported by Variety in June 2016
We'd previously heard on the grapevine that a new Quatermass was being developed but we hadn't any information other than that - now we have a possible date and one that makes it one of the tentpole events for the BBC this Christmas - we'd guess that a UK broadcast will be either day-and-date with the US broadcast or maybe even before.
Quatermass was originally created by Nigel Kneale for the BBC and debuted with The Quatermass Experiment in 1953. It subsequently had a number of follow up series, most recently a 2-part live event in 2005 starring Jason Flemyng and David Tennant. There was also a number of spin-off films released starting with an adaptation of the original TV series in 1955.
We've tried various searches to find out more but as yet haven't managed to track down the source of the above image.
We've contacted the BBC for comment and will update when we have more.
