Shooting Stars to be shot of
The BBC has cancelled surreal comedy panel show, Shooting Stars. It featured the comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer as hosts with team captains, Jack Dee and Ulrika Jonsson.
Bob Mortimer announced the news through his Twitter account (@RealBobMortimer): “BBC have just cancelled Shooting Stars”. No further explanation was offered by the comedian.
A BBC spokeswoman, however, explained:
“In future there will be less space on BBC2 for comedy/entertainment panel shows so sadly Shooting Stars won’t be returning. We’d like to thank Vic and Bob for everything they’ve brought to the channel over the years.
The show has been running for eight series from 1995 with more than 70 episodes under its belt. It has had two breaks: one for five years and another for six years. Ratings have decreased recently with the last three series average 2.1 million, 1.7 million and 1.5 million respectively.
Executive producer Lisa Clark told magazine Broadcast that they received the unexpected news in a phone call: “We are having a think about what to do next.”
