New Channel 4 drama Top Boy
Top Boy is the new four-part thriller from Channel 4, starring Kierston Wareing (It’s A Free World), Ashley Walters (Hustle, Small Island and UK contemporary musicians Kane Robinson aka Kano and Scorcher.
Top Boy delves into the personal stories of those involved in youth crime. Dushane (Walters) is a 26-year-old charming gang leader and drug dealer who has recently caught the eye of ex-con and drug dealer Bobby Raikes (Geoff Bell) and immediately seizes the chance to make more of his life. Along with his friend Sully (Kane Robinson), he starts his journey to become Top Boy.
Along his way, his violent quest to take over the drug supply on the Summerhouse Estate begins to cause problems. Ra'Nell (Malcolm Kamulete) lies at the hear of the story, a 13-year-old struggling to create a stable home environment for his mentally ill mother Lisa (Sharon Duncan Brewster) while his best friend (Giacomo Mancini) yearns to be part of Dushane's gang.
Written by screenwriter and novelist Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies, The Hamburg Cell), Top Boy lies in the capable hands of director of Dead Set Yann Demange. The drama's young talent was found using open auditions, workshops, and even on-the-spot street approaches.
Top Boy will air on the 31st of October on Channel 4.
