The Orville looks a bit like that Galaxy Quest TV series we deserved but never got

Star Trek spoofs are nothing new, but none quite manage to out-Trek Trek than Galaxy Quest. Now Seth MacFarlane has thrown his hat into the ring with The Orville which likes like another warm-hearted riff on the voyages of the Enterprise. Check out the trailer above.

It's looking likely that The Orville will actually beat the latest (and heavily delayed) Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery, to our screens when it arrives later this year. It stars Seth MacFarlane as Captain Ed Mercer and Adrianne Palicki as Kelly Grayson (who also happens to be Mercer's ex-wife), other familiar faces include Penny Johnson Jerald who appeared in Deep Space Nine as Cassidy Yates and frequent MacFarlane collaborator, Scott Grimes (American Dad, Family Guy).

Debuting in 1966, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek survived cancellation and returned with a series of films featuring Jame T Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise. It spawned four massively successes TV spin-offs and movies and ruled cult TV in the 1990s. After Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, it spawned a film prequel / reboot under the guise of JJ Abrams but returned to its TV roots in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery...
