HBO considering multiple Game of Thrones spin offs

While Game Of Thrones will be entering its penultimate season this summer, HBO have their eyes on a longer-term franchise. According to Variety, the cable channel has closed deals with four different writers to explore multiple spin-offs from the show.

Max Borenstein, Brian Helgeland, Jane Goldman and Carly Wray have all begun developing ideas, with the latter two working individually and with the creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire series George R. R. Martin. Apparently Martin, along with the current Game of Thrones showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff, will be involved on the projects but not write any material.

While Game of Thrones will end next year with season eight, it seems to timeframe has been given for the spin-offs, with HBO confirming...

“We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.”

Season seven of Game of Thrones will air on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on the 17th July.
