Jason Isaacs cast as the captain of Star Trek: Discovery

The new Star Trek TV series set to debut later this year might centre around Sonequa Martin- Green's as of yet unnamed lieutenant commander, but that doesn't mean we won't be seeing a lot of the captain of the USS Discovery. Now Deadline has revealed who will be taking on that role in Star Trek: Discovery.

Jason Isaacs has been cast as Captain Lorca. It's a great bit of casting and puts him in the iconic lineup of William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula. It's not clear who much of a role he will play in Star Trek: Discovery, but Deadline's statement that it will be a 'major role', suggests he will be a large presence in every episode.

Star Trek: Discovery has been delayed a couple of times, but is expected to air in the summer or Autumn of 2017, with Netflix airing the new episodes in the UK (and another 187 countries) less than 24 hours after the US.
