Hidden Gems - Digital Treasures, March 2017
More on Netflix
These days we have access to so many amazing digital TV offerings, whether paid for like Netflix, Amazon Prime or NowTV; or free or advertising supported like BBC player, All 4 or ITV Hub. With so much choice it can be hard to decide between all the offerings, there's sadly no cross-platform search or recommendation engine. So, here at The Digital Fix we've decided to unearth some of hidden gems of the streaming TV world, for your viewing pleasure. Every month we'll pick out the best, or most interesting, from what's new, old or obscure.
Broadchurch is back on our screens for season 3 on ITV, but if you want to delve into the past of this show it's all there on NowTV. Chris Chibnall's Jurrassic Coast skandi noir made a big impact back in its day and easily stands up to a rewatch.
Another piece of British TV heritage is being given the Endeavour treatment: Talented writer Glen Laker is bringing us Prime Suspect: 1973, a prequel to Linda La Plante's acclaimed, long-running police procedural. Selected episodes of the latter days of Helen Mirrim's Jane Tennison are available to watch on ITV Hub.
Santa Clarita Diet
Something new now, though you'd have thought there was no story left untold in the zombie genre. Not so, as this sitcom feels fresh, funny and visceral in equal parts. Starring Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant and, briefly, Nathan Fillion, this tale of suburban comedic horror is a fine addition to the undead pantheon.
Abstract: The Art of Design
Something totally different now, Abstract is not narrative based. Each episode approaches a different school of design through the eyes of one of its luminaries; a glossy, easy-to-follow look into the inspirations and processes of a world we interact with every day, often without an overt awareness of it.
