Breaking News: Sky pull Urban Myths episode following concerns raised by family of Michael Jackson
Sky have confirmed that one episode in the upcoming series has been cancelled - 'Michael & Marlon' was a 30 minute episode focusing on the Fiennes portrayal of Michael Jackson.
In a statement released on Twitter, Sky Arts said:
We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series.
This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offence.
Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.
We've heard reports that upcoming original Sky Arts 'comedy' series Urban Myths has been pulled due to concerns raised by the family of Michael Jackson. The series, which featured a number of A-list actors in satirical roles, was promoted heavily off the back of Joseph Fiennes take on the late pop star.
There was widespread disbelief at the series when the trailer was first unveiled earlier this week.
We're unsure whether the decision to not broadcast the series is permanent one one which may be reversed once the furore has died down.
A tweet from the BBC's Colin Paterson backs up the information we have.
