Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow renewed, Constantine to return in animated form
After the huge ratings of the recent four-episode Invasion! crossover, it's no surprise that The CW has renewed it's entire slate of superhero shows for another year. Arrow will be back for its sixth season, presumably dropping the flashbacks entirely now that the current run will bring Oliver's past up to date with the pilot episode. The Flash will be back for a fourth season, while Supergirl (which crossed over to The CW from
Also confirmed, Matt Ryan will be back as Constantine, but there is a catch; it will be animated form only on The CW Seed alongside Vixen, which has not aired over here in the UK. This may mean more appearances from Ryan's John Constantine (whose show was cancelled by NBC in 2014) following his appearance in season four of Arrow.
The Hollywood Reporter who made the announcement, also confirmed three other shows renewed by The CW. Long-running cult show Supernatural will be back for a record breaking thirteenth season (season twelve has just started here in the UK). Getting third seasons will be Jane the Virgin (which also airs on E4 with Supernatural), and the hilarious Crazy Ex-Girlfriend which is available weekly in the UK on Netflix.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz made the following statement on the renewals:
“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas. Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.” The CW
Another live-action DC superhero show has also been rumoured for the network, but nothing official has yet been announced. Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow will be back for the rest of their current seasons on Sky 1 soon (likely February), with Robert Turnbull and Baz Greenland back with their weekly reviews. Look out for the big Supergirl / The Flash musical cross-over story coming later this season...
