UPDATED: Michelle Yeoh is the first confirmed cast member on Star Trek: Discovery

UPDATE: Deadline has confirmed that Yeoh will be playing Captain Han Bo of the USS Shenzhou, a ship that will play a key role in Star Trek: Discovery season one.

For a show that was originally planned to start in January, details on the cast of the new Star Trek TV series Star Trek: Discovery have been thin on the ground. But now has revealed that former Bond girl Michelle Yeoh will be involved.

One of the show's key writers, Nicholas Meyer, confirmed she is in the show, but didn't elaborate on the details. Various sites have suggested she could be the female lead - a lieutenant commander - or the rumoured female admiral. Details remain sketchy since Bryan Fuller stepped down as showrunner last month, but anticipation for the new Star Trek TV series remains high.

Star Trek: Discovery will debut in May 2017, with Netflix airing the show the next day.
