Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and Linnea Berthelsen join the cast of Stranger Things season two
If you caught all the Lord of the Rings references in season one of Stranger Things - and caught the strong The Goonies vibe in the adventures of Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Eleven - then this piece of casting is just perfect. Goonie / Samwise Gamgee himself Sean Astin is one of three new cast members announced for season two.
Variety has reported that Astin will be playing Bob Newby, manager of the Hawkins RadioShack and kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour).
Joining him will be Paul Reiser, playing Dr. Owens, a Department of Energy muckety muck who is tasked with “containing” the events of the previous year. Finally Linnea Berthelsen will be playing Roman, an emotionally damaged young woman who suffered a big loss as a kid. Roman isn’t a Hawkins resident, but she is connected to all the spooky stuff that happened at the Department of Energy lab during the first season.
Sadie Sink was previously announced as playing Max, a tomboy with a complicated history and a suspicious streak. Dacre Montgomery will play Billy, Max’s older step-brother. Billy is a charismatic Camaro-driving drinker, a classic girlfriend-stealing bad boy.
