Hooten & The Lady: 1.07 Cambodia
The pre-amble to this week's episode makes it quite clear that Hooten's nemesis, and the threat to Lady Alex, is very much going to remain a dangerous factor in these last two episodes. But for now we move 9 weeks past the time that Alex recovered the sought-after Fabergé egg; Hooten is in Cambodia, location for much of the original Tomb Raider movie. And a perfect place for Indiana Hooten to show his fear of snakes and to revisit the opening scene of Raiders, combined with the sidekick from Temple of Doom.
Hooten is flying solo these days, thinking himself down with Lady Alex, her museum and her wedding plans. It seems though that Alex has no intention of indulging his stubbornness. The quest this time is for Shambala; not the night time corner of Glastonbury, but the the birthplace of Kalki, the final incarnation of Vishnu who will usher in a new Golden Age. The MacGuffin this time are artefacts that will grant immortality to whoever owns them, the Cintamani Stone that featured in the second Uncharted game. Just the prize for a shadowy nemesis. And who better for a nemesis than a man who once thought himself Hooten's brother; a brother called Kane.
I think I've mentioned the brisk pace of the show in pretty much every review, but sometimes it still can take me by surprise. The surge of Hooten's backstory and conclusion of the arc didn't feel hand-wavey, but it felt like it was done in the blink of an eye. Now, with one episode left, there's just the issue of the reluctant bride to deal with. And where better for a wedding and perhaps piratical distractions, than the Caribbean!
